Portrait of Prithvi Dev, resting his cheek on his hand.

Prithvi Dev

Hi! I’m an artist-theorist based between New Delhi and Goa. My work exists at the intersection of visual and conceptual art, mathematics, and philosophy. Navigating the space between the intuitive and the analytical, I explore structures of consciousness, motion, and dimensionality. My practice resists disciplinary boundaries, engaging deeply with sacred geometry, cognitive systems, and the interplay between order and chaos.

At the core of my practice is drawing — specifically a stream-of-consciousness technique I’ve developed since childhood, using ink on paper. Layered, intricate, and iterative, these works map mental motion — tracing states of attention, memory, and inner architecture. Alongside these, I create kinetic sculptures informed by sacred geometry, moiré interference, and mathematical recursion: objects that transform through rotation and observation, revealing novel multidimensional fractals. These open new pathways for both artistic and mathematical inquiry.

I’ve also maintained a parallel engagement with the natural world. As an amateur ornithologist, I create detailed stippled drawings of birds that serve as meditations on structure, reverence, and beauty. These works offer a quiet, observational counterpoint to the abstract systems that define the rest of my practice.

I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA, 2015), and have exhibited across India and the United States. My work has appeared in both contemporary art spaces and mathematical art forums. I also lecture and teach workshops on conceptual drawing, kinetic geometry, and interdisciplinary thinking.

I understand art not as medium or message, but as a recursive mode of inquiry. A method of thought — a way of visually reasoning through complex internal and external structures. My practice is a space where geometry, motion, perception, and spirit remain in continuous dialogue.

Artist Statement

How does one embed thought into matter — into structure? Can a physical object become a structure of thought? An external muse for contemplation, cognitively clear and laid bare. Distilled from observation. From patterns that fluctuate. From the fundamental nature of the cosmos.

I see art as an experience that reveals aspects of reality — and the self — to the viewer. A process of unfolding. Unravelling insight on each visit. This is the ideal I strive toward: to shape emotion, thought, and sensation into forms that thinks back.

Most things start with a question

if you have one — about a build, a collaboration, a workshop, or just how any of this works — send it. I look forward to your comments, commissions, and inquiries :)
