Jitterbug Geometry
Polycarbonate sheets, SS rivets and rings, digitally designed transparent stickers.
A family of these transformers, shown together. Within any single piece, every element is linked to every other — a tensegrity-like interconnection, so the whole moves as one: take hold anywhere on it, and from that point the structure expands and contracts, folds and unfolds. Set side by side, the pieces reveal the kinships and dualities that run between the Platonic and Archimedean solids — the tetrahedron expanding into the octahedron, the octahedron and the cube both opening into the cuboctahedron, and the cuboctahedron in turn into the rhombicuboctahedron. Each form is nested in the next; the motion is simply that relationship made visible.
