Jitterbug Transformations

2019  ·  Sculpture

Hand-constructed using laser-cut acrylic sheets, transparent stickers, and stainless steel hardware.

These are dipolygonids — solids whose every face is drawn over with pattern, so each rests in the hand like a small, breathing world. Open one and let it fold shut, and the grids and spirals slide across themselves: lines gather into moiré, phi spirals wind toward their still centres, light seeming to move though nothing is projected. The motion itself is the animation. In the video the family turns through one by one — the tetrahedron spiralling, the cube and octahedron laced in grids, the cuboctahedron and icosahedron opening into spirals again.
