Stream of Consciousness

2017  ·  Drawing

Pen and ink, alcohol-based markers, on brown paper  ·  8.5 × 5.5 in

The drawings the whole series grew out of — and the most personal I’ve made. Here I first let one mark decide the next, and the language of everything that followed took shape: faces rising out of teeming fields and sinking back in, eyes, birds and fish, suns unwinding into orbits and stipple. Some sheets I flooded with colour, a rainbow climbing out of a pair of lips; others I left nearly bare, a single profile surfacing from open paper. Nothing holds still for long, and that restlessness is the point.
